How to play Viajecillo

Objective

Connect the origin country with the destination country forming a route of neighboring countries.

Instructions

The game has only one optimal route that connects both countries in the fewest attempts possible. Additionally, there is a connected but non-optimal route that uses more countries than the optimal route. There are many ways to connect both countries but... will you be able to connect them with the shortest route?

The round ends when you connect both countries by creating a route with neighboring countries. Your points are added based on the number of countries you added to the route. Fewer countries ensures a higher score.

Game Interface

Within the game, you'll only see the silhouettes of the two countries you need to connect and can see their names by hovering over the silhouette.

Start by typing in the search bar the country you think is on the route. The game will highlight the country's complete silhouette and use color indicators to give you hints about your attempt:

• 🟩 Green: country in the optimal route
• 🟨 Yellow: connected but not optimal
• ⬛ Gray: doesn't connect to the route

The green indicator will only appear if you create the optimal route on your first try. If you add more countries than those indicated in the optimal route, all attempts that are part of the route will be marked with yellow, even if they are part of the optimal route.

You can use a hint by clicking the 💡 icon, but beware, using hints costs you points.

The round ends when you connect both countries by creating a route with neighboring countries. Your points are added based on the number of countries you added to the route. Fewer countries ensures a higher score.

On the final screen you will see the number of countries you added to your route and the number of countries that make up the optimal route. If you haven't achieved it yet, try again! You'll see how you improve over time.

Points System

In each game, the starting score is 0 points. From your first attempt, scoring works as follows:

The total score is calculated by adding correct answer points and subtracting penalties (if applicable). If the total sum is negative, the final score will be 0.

Remember, it's not just about finding the correct route, but reaching your destination on the optimal route that passes through the fewest countries. Try to beat your points record on each try!

Expert Tips

First visualize the location of both countries and think about the route that requires the fewest neighboring countries to connect them. Try to use large countries to cover more distance in fewer attempts, as long as that is the fastest way to reach your destination.
